CONCEPT

Creating an open space that is both smart in functionality and big enough to host a party. The layout is carefully planned to maximise the usage of space that includes a mini chill-out lounge, a relaxed foyer and a stylish bedroom which will make your nights feel indulgent.

I’ve stayed in numerous chic and stylish boutique hotels and simply loved them. The clever use of small spaces and the practical layouts made such visits very pleasant. When I approached my interior designer, Jonathan Er from DISTINCTidENTITY, to design my bachelor pad, that was exactly what I wanted – a classy and lush boutique hotel room. Apart from the elegance and practicality, I presented him with an enormous challenge to contrast spaciousness and coziness in my tiny 30-year-old 3-room HDB flat.

My flat’s open concept resulted in a bright and well-ventilated space. The steps leading from the foyer to the living room make the space appear much larger than it is.  The clean lines of the kitchen echo the concept of simplicity. Strategically designed sliding doors let me segregate the space into smaller coves that includes a walk-in closet for maximum privacy. The beautifully designed cozy corner allows me to catch up with reading as well as afternoon naps. It also double as a warm and inviting dinning area for intimate gatherings. The bedroom is my ultimate sanctuary. With the surrounding curtains drawn, it feels like sleeping in a four-posted bed every night. The bathroom is another of my favourite as the rain shower is my daily indulgence.  The open concept vanity and glass door to the toilet lets in more light during the day.

In the process of designing, Jonathan listened and understood my needs. Although I had to give up a tiny storeroom, he gave me more storage space than I bargained for. There are many ‘hiding-spaces’ for large items and knickknacks. Jonathan also designed a space for me to work and compose music. He had created a dream home for me that is large enough for a party yet snug and relaxed at the same time.
